We have several varieties of Pussy Willows available as cut branches.
- Grey Willow (also known as Sallow willow) (cinerea) A soft, silvery fuzzy catkin that’s a bit scruffy but full of charm. The grey willow has a high ornamental value due to its beautiful shape. It also makes for a beautiful and useful plant in the home garden.
- Kilmarnock Willow, (caprea ‘Pendula Kilmarnock’) (The pussy willow buds start yellow then fade to gray. Cut stems with buds add wonderful texture to winter flower arrangements.)
- Rabbit’s foot Willow (Salix ‘Rabbit’s Foot’) (Large Rabbit’s foot shaped catkins that are prized as cut flowers. An early and free-flowering, with silvery white catkins.) We do have two others varieties beside this one planted in the farm. (American pussy willow and Cramer pussy willow).
- Siberian Willow (also known as Long-leaved violet willow and Sharpe leaf willow) (Salix acutifolia female) (The pussy willow buds turn brown in the Fall. Cut stems with buds add wonderful texture to winter flower arrangements. The catkins turn to a fluffy white flower in the spring.)
- Rosea Willow (also known as the French pussy willow and Goat willow) (Salix caprea ‘Rosea’) (The pussy willow buds are fluffy and golden. Cut stems with buds add wonderful texture to winter flower arrangements.)
- Giant Pink Pussy Willow (also known as the Japanese Pink Pussy Willow) (Salix gracilistyla ‘Mt Aso’) Beautiful pink to violet-pink catkins up to one inch in height occur on the male plant. Young stems are covered in felted fuzz. Coppicing will engender more stems with pinkish-red buds all up and down on the winter stems and new pewter leaves when they emerge. It’s flowering branches are in high demand in early spring and look terrific when cut and added to the vase.)
- Black Pussy Willow: Black Cat Pussy Willow (Salix chaenomeloides) is a large, striking shrub that produces fuzzy catkins in early spring. These catkins start out pink and silver and mature to a deep black. These provide great early spring interest while waiting for spring flowers to bloom. This plant provides great cut flowers, or catkins. It also holds its color nicely when dried.
- French Pink Pussy Willow: French Pink Pussy Willow is a large growing deciduous shrub or small tree that is sure to be a conversation piece in your landscape, and in your home. You can’t grow it indoors, but budded branches can be cut in spring to create a magnificent floral display in your favorite vase. In early spring upward-facing, fuzzy, cat paw-like 1-inch silvery-pink catkins appear up and down the bare branches. Cut stems with buds add wonderful texture to winter flower arrangements.)
- American pussy willow: Our own native pussy willow, featuring soft, fuzzy catkins in late winter, one of the first plants to bloom in northern climates, heralding the arrival of spring. American Pussy Willow features delicate tan catkins along the branches from late winter to early spring before the leaves. The flowers are excellent for cutting.
